For Christ and His Kingdom,
Father Jack

Dear Christ the King family-
I just received the following message this morning (scroll down below) from the Anglican Mission Prayer Network regarding tomorrow’s ordination of our three new Bishops including our own Bishop-elect Doc Loomis who will serve as our Network Bishop.

Please be in prayer for our new Bishops coming into leadership in the AMIA and for all those gathering to witness this joyous occasion.  I will be in attendance at the consecration service flying out from Detroit early tomorrow to Pasadena, CA and then back late Thursday night/Friday morning.  Your prayers for safe travel and for protection for my family while I am away would be most appreciated!

For Christ and His Kingdom,
Father Jack

As our Bible reading calendar for church has been in Ephesians, I thought it would be a great opportunity to study a particular theme in depth during these summer months.  We are in the middle of a 6 part series on the book of Ephesians and it’s a message to the entire Church of Jesus Christ where St. Paul addresses everything from church leadership, to living the Christian life and even love and marriage.  If you missed the first two messages in our series, they are available as mp3 files on our website here

July 26th: ” THE CHURCH: ON LEADERSHIP & UNITY ” (part 1) was from Ephesians 4:1-7,11-16.
Click here for the message audio.
From the message, here are some questions that author & Pastor Bill Hybels asks of those seeking God’s vision for their lives (from his book “Courageous Leadership”):
* Have you yielded yourself fully to God?
* Have you asked God to unveil His vision for your life, or are you asking Him to bless a plan that you’ve already come up with? We must come to God with empty hands and an open heart and ask, “What is Your vision for my life?”
* Have you fasted?
* Have you prayed?
* Have you been quiet and waited on God in solitude?
* Have you cleaned up sinful patterns in your life?
* Have you weeded out the distractions and ambient noise that would keep you from hearing what God is trying to say to you?

August 2nd: “THE CHURCH: ON PERSONAL RENEWAL” – Ephesians 4:17-25 (Part 2)

Upcoming messages in the series from Ephesians:
August 9th: “THE CHURCH: ON THE CHRISTIAN LIFE” – Ephesians 4:25-5:2 (Part 3)
August 16th: “THE CHURCH: ON WORSHIP” – Ephesians 5:15-20 (Part 4)
August 23rd: “THE CHURCH: ON LOVE & MARRIAGE” – Ephesians 5:21-33 (Part 5)
August 30th: “THE CHURCH: ON SPIRITUAL WARFARE” – Ephesians 6:10-20 (Part 6)

In today’s video wrapup:
* Today’s Sunday’s message: “THE CHURCH: ON PERSONAL RENEWAL” (Part 2 on a 6 part series from the Book of Ephesians)
* Sun., Aug. 9th is the last call for collections for the “Backpacks of Hope” giveaway with City Rescue Mission

Check out this local radio interview with Kristin Shields, the daughter of Tom and Mary Kay Shield, members of Christ The King-DeWitt.

Kristin is an aspiring actress in New York City who recently landed a role in Animal Planet’s Monsters Inside Me.  This cable network Discovery Channel show is a regular series about how the insides of our bodies work.

She’s a graduate of DeWitt High School and a recent graduate of the University of Michigan.

The interview was on amLansing on WILS radio and was conducted by Walt Sorg.

Dear Christ the King Family-
No video update for this week  –  I am now on vacation visiting my family in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  Father Micah Monroe from Ann Arbor will be the presiding pastor for the July 19th service while I’m out of town assisted by our newly appointed Lay Pastor Steve Steitz.  Fr. Micah’s wife, Brenda, will minister in music for the service. Then, I’ll be back for the July 26th service when I will start a six-part series on “THE CHURCH” as we’ll be in the book of Ephesians in our Lectionary readings.

We had 120 people in our Worship Center on Friday night to welcome Bishop Sandy Greene as he visited us from Denver to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation for the churches in our region (Allison Findlay and Alec Findlay from our parish were Confirmed!) in the Anglican Mission in the Americas. Then on Saturday morning in nearby Lapeer, my friend and colleague Colleen Dewey was ordained as a Deacon by Bishop Sandy.

Also in that service, our own Steve Steitz was commissioned as a Lay Pastor in the AMIA. And then today, Sunday morning, we had 60 in worship to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Baptism for Ellie Marie Gardner (daughter of Marty & Nina Gardner and granddaughter of Larry & BJ Gardner).

I hope that you all have a great week and I ask that you keep me and my family in your prayers for safe travels out East, for some valuable time of rest and recreation and for safe returns to Michigan.

For Christ and His Kingdom,
Father Jack

We were blessed to be able to minister to his family and friends by providing an Anglican memorial service for him as well as full military honors led by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #671 in DeWitt.
